Charities Dedicated to Gold Mining Causes

The State of the World
So much of the world experiences poverty, hunger and a lack of clean water. These conditions are caused by a number of factors, and are often blamed on big corporate industries.
In fact, the mining industry takes a beating in this department.
Responsible Mining Methods
We’ve established how devastating mining can be on ecosystems and communities, and the real kicker is that responsible mining methods exist.
There is hope, some mining companies make efforts to follow the Golden Rules and practice safe and ecologically sound methods.

Combat the Effects of Mining
Regardless of the cause, the problems that face Mother Earth and her people need to be changed.
There are plenty of charities with the goal of cleaning up the earth, feeding the malnourished and lobbying to implement stricter regulations on big, corporate industries.
The recent hike in the price of gold is bound to increase the intensity of gold mining worldwide. To combat those effects we will all have to do our part to give back to the ecosystems and the people affected.
If you give to charity anyway, you might want to consider one that uses their resources and donations to help the land and people affected by mining operations.
Pick a Charity Devoted to Mining Causes
The charities listed here have special interests in reducing the effects of gold mining in every capacity.
Often these are large charities who devote a portion of their resources to the affected areas of the precious metal mining industries.

Actionaid
Having just opened a new head office in Johannesburg (right in the heart of gold territory in South Africa), Actionaid is in a prime position to help combat the mining and turmoil that comes with it.
They have been battling the effects of poverty and unjust conditions since 1972, and work closely with affected communities to help them discover solutions for a stronger and healthier community.

CAFOD
Cafod is a Catholic organization that stands up for the rights of the land and the people near perspective and existing mining sites.
One of the biggest advocates for making a difference when it comes to mine-induced pollution and conditions, this group is probably responsible for many of the mining regulation laws in place today
Cafod places public pressure on precious metal and stone mining corporations to practice responsible methods and to reduce the effects of their practices.

Oxfam America
This is a privately owned organization which means that Oxfam America is proud not to be limited by the interests of their investors.
Working for human rights and cleaner air, sea and land worldwide, Oxfam is partially responsible for the popular No Dirty Gold champaign.
This campaign originated to enforce stronger regulations within the mining industries, and to encourage support for the mining companies who take their ore from the earth in a responsible manner.
Earthworks
Another of the founding members of No Dirty Gold, Earthworks focuses a great deal of their resources on cleaning up the mining industry.
They push for safer working conditions, proper waste disposal and holding the big mining companies responsible for the consequences of their methods
Gaining in popularity, the No Dirty Gold campaign works to educate the public about unhealthy practices and to encourage jewelers to only purchase their gold from socially and ecologically sound sources.
Human Rights Watch
Not specifically involved in redefining the gold industry, Human Rights Watch is more of a general human rights group.
They fight for the rights of displaced indigenous groups and exploited workers in all global industries.
Because the worldwide gold industry is such a huge one, often this organization is dedicated to helping the people affected by them.
This HRW works hard to defend against discrimination, sexism, racism, unsafe working conditions and to promote labor rights.

Mother Earth Can Always Call Her Lawyer
When all else fails, Mother Earth can place a call to her attorney.
Some lawyers care about the earth, enough to defend her against big companies who pollute and corrupt her.
Earth Justice is non-profit and their main goal is to strengthen environmental laws worldwide for a better tomorrow.
Even their offices are environmentally friendly, as they take their own advice and attempt to reduce their carbon footprint on the planet.

You Can Just Donate Your Gold
We encourage everyone to donate to charity, not just good for those in need but good for everyone.
If you want to save yourself a few steps and simply donate your gold, we can help with that.
All you have to do is mark your gold as a donation when you return it to us in your GoldPaq and we will donate on your behalf.
Take a look at our environmental policy, we urge people to recycle what they don’t use, and donating the money is just another step towards a better world.
