Gold Plated Roadkill, Travel in Shame

Gold tire

Road Jewelry

Getting around in style is important to many of us, and the owners of the cars below are no exception, in fact they’ve attempted to set the gold standard.

Gaudy not Gaudi

We think taking a car and covering it with gold is more than a little gaudy and over excessive, but then again, we slow down when we see car crashes, so we are going to show you anyway.

We’d love to melt some of these metallic masterpieces down

DeLorean

It is doubtful this DeLorean will take you back in time, however with its gold plating and hefty price tag it probably should.

Gold DeloreanThe gold plated DeLorean models were a limited edition, built specifically for an American Express holiday catalog. (Sorry McFly, no Bling for you)

Initially there were to be 100 of them, however only two were actually manufactured at the original DeLorean plant in Northern Ireland.

Another was built in the United States later as a back up, using parts leftover from the original prototypes.

However the quality was not up to the standards of the plant in Northern Ireland, and the backup model is not worth nearly as much as the two that were originally made.

One of the two originals stands in Snyder National Bank in Snyder, Texas and the other sits in an automobile museum in Reno, Nevada. Unfortunately they are both still on public display.

Where is the flux capacitor, Jake?

Money Quote: The entire vehicle consists of less than an ounce of gold, it’s probably cheaper than respraying.

Porsche Boxster

The first in a series of ten Porsche models to get the golden treatment, this Boxster has been lovingly hand covered in 22K gold leaf.

Gold Porsche BoxsterA goldsmith from Stuttgart named Bernd Hoegar is the artist culprit responsible for this unique vehicle.

Bernd patiently applied sheet after sheet of hammered 22K gold leafing onto the surface of the vehicle’s body.

Once the gold was in place, the car was burnished (or polished) to bring out the natural gold sheen.

This model took about a month to complete and the finished product is the first of its kind (oh, there has been gold crap before, just never with a Porsche badge on it).

This Porsche features fine accessories too, the wheels, steering wheel and door knobs are covered in gold leaf and burnished to match the body so he driver can enjoy some shame on the inside too.

Fiat 500 Pepita

Not often found in America, (thankfully), the Fiat 500 Pepita is a popular* Italian economical compact car mistake.

*Popular as herpes - common, but no one actually wants it unless they have no choice

Gold FiatFew of them are worth as much as this particular model, because Studio M has painted this one in pure 24K gold.

The sparkle doesn’t stop there, this Fiat has gold sidewalls, a mother of pearl dashboard, Swarovski crystal lined pedals and gear shift and cashmere floor mats.

Small enough to maneuver easily down narrow Italian streets, bright enough to blind passers by, and ugly enough to make small children cry. This little car is marketed towards…the car thief who has no shame.

Gold Plated Engine

Gold engineIt may not get you there any faster, but this gold plated engine is sure to impress the ladies when you finally arrive.

The ability to conduct both heat and electricity combined with a inherent resistance to tarnish makes this precious metal the perfect coating for a vehicle engine. In theory.

While using gold for this purpose could be practical, the price of gold makes it an extravagance few can afford and most should be stopped at all costs.

Nuts for Your Truck

Gold NutsNo truck is complete without a set of nuts, especially gold nuts.

This is our “personal favorite” vehicle accessory ever, who doesn’t need a pair hanging from their tow hitch?

What a great way to show everyone you are a real man. (albeit with a key part missing)

We’ll Melt Your Nuts
You know we are crazy about gold, but even we would rather melt these puppies down (careful guys, you’re next) than put them on any vehicle.

Personally, we are not ones to consider attaching a pair of nuts to anything (if they don’t already have nuts, they *probably* don’t need them).

*Perhaps that should be our new slogan.
