Most Memorable Gold
Gold is a status symbol, one that often denotes wealth and privilege. For this reason, gold is often used to add a certain cache to nearly everything. In fact, you?ve probably never noticed how often gold is used to add a little sparkle to everything from drinks to movies to cars. Here?s a list of some of the most memorable ways gold has been used in items both everyday and extraordinary:
Goldschlager ? Liqueur with the touch of gold
Goldschlager, a Swiss schnapps with a cinnamon flavor, features as its calling card flakes of gold that settle to the bottom of the bottle. Although the gold may give the liqueur a luxurious touch, it?s actually a negligible amount; a 750 ml bottle of Goldschlager contains less than a tenth of a gram of gold, which would amount to approximately $3.00 on the gold market.
Adding the Midas Touch to Your Car
Although Midas claims to give your car?s brakes the Midas touch, many people prefer to give their cars the Midas touch in a more obvious way ? by adding gold trim. There are several companies that offer 24-karat gold plating service for vehicle trim items such as hood ornaments, hood and trunk badges, wheels, and even exhaust systems.

Gold on Film ? Movies that have gone gold.
Over 100 movies have the word gold incorporated somewhere in their title. It?s no wonder why ? not only is the word “gold” memorable, it gives the movie a certain allure.
The most famous movie to date with the word “gold” in the title is undoubtedly the 1964 James Bond film “Goldfinger,” not only one of the most successful of all the James Bond films, but also one that has spawned more tributes, parodies, and even urban legends than most any other film in modern movie history.
One of the most persistent urban legends that surrounds “Goldfinger” is that actress Shirley Eaton, who played Jill Masterson in the film, died as the character Jill did from “skin suffocation” due to being covered in gold paint. Not only is the rumor that Eaton perished during the making of the film just that ? a rumor ? but the popular television show Mythbusters debunked the myth of instant death by immersion in gold paint. It is probably not environmental friendly to use that much gold paint. Gold may be memorable, but it?s not necessarily deadly!
The Gold Card ? A sign of success?
Although Wells Fargo was the first company to offer a charge card ? in 1914 ? American Express was the first credit card company to offer a gold card for esteemed members, beginning in 1966.
Many other credit card companies ? and even other companies ? followed American Express? lead, offering their best customers “gold” cards and services. This is the easiest way to go have a gold vacation. Not to be outdone, American Express began offering a platinum card in 1984, for customers held in even higher esteem. The American Express platinum card is still available by invitation only.
Gold Grills ? Putting your money where your mouth is, literally
Spurred on by the popularity of hip hop artists who sported mouths full of gold teeth or gold “grills” (a snap-on cover for the teeth), many people flocked to dentists and jewelers to have their own gold “grills” made in the early 2000s. A high-quality “grill” will set you back hundreds or even thousands of dollars; hip-hop artist/jeweler Paul Wall is said to have “grills” that are worth around $30,000. Maybe you can be like him by turning into a rich gold buyer.
However, the tide does turn, and what was the gold craze of yesterday is often pass? today; gold brokers and pawn brokers are reporting seeing a larger number of people selling their “grills” for cash in recent months.

Gold Records ? In more ways than one
A gold record is an achievement any musician can be proud of. What?s even better is an album with the word “gold” in the title that goes gold ? or even platinum. Here?s a list of several “gold” albums and singles that have gone gold:
- Beck ? Mellow Gold: certified gold in 1994, platinum in 1995.
- Dire Straits ? Love Over Gold: certified gold 1986.
- Vince Gill - Pocket Full of Gold: certified gold 1991, platinum 1992, multiplatinum 1994.
- Love Unlimited Orchestra ? White Gold:certified gold 1975.
- Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly ? Golden Time of Day: certified gold 1978.
- Freda Payne - Band of Gold: certified gold 1970.
- Three Dog Night - Golden Bisquits:certified gold 1971.
- Kanye West - Gold Digger: certified gold, platinum and multiplatinum 2006.
- Neil Young - After the Gold Rush: certified gold 1970, platinum and multiplatinum 1986.
Gold?s importance to our culture is obvious. That touch of gold makes everything shine, be it teeth, records, cards or cars. Everything goes better with
gold!
