Should I Sell My Gold and Platinum?
Chances are you?ve read or heard that gold and platinum are at all time market highs, commanding astronomical prices that would have seemed outrageous just a year ago. You?ve probably heard, as well, that many people are selling their gold and platinum jewelry, dental scrap, automotive scrap, and other items in order to take advantage of what is essentially a seller?s market.
If you have old gold and/or platinum jewelry, gold dental scrap, gold coins, platinum automotive scrap, or other gold and platinum items, then the thought of selling them has possibly crossed your mind. You may, however, be wavering between whether to sell your items or not. That?s understandable; making the decision to sell your old gold and platinum items is not easily made. However, there are some factors you should take into consideration.
When making your mind up as to whether to sell your gold and platinum items, keep these factors in mind:
The Market May Not Last
It?s true that it?s a seller?s market right now for those who wish to sell their gold and platinum, but it is anyone?s guess as to how long this surge in the gold and platinum markets will last. The past few weeks have seen the U.S. dollar make gains against other currencies, and the price of crude oil drop; both of these markets have some bearing on the U.S. market for gold and platinum. Selling now, rather than hedging bets against the future of the gold and platinum markets, may make a large financial difference.
Is Your Gold and Platinum Jewelry Worth Saving?
The chances are good that at least some of the gold and platinum you have to sell is in the form of old jewelry; the chances are just as good that these items are less valuable as jewelry than you think.
Pieces of jewelry that are broken, damaged, or just unattractive may not have very much value as jewelry, and may, in fact, cost more to repair than they are worth. Pawn shops and jewelers are often uninterested in broken and damaged jewelry for resale purposes, and are even less interested in jewelry that is unattractive or outdated, as they know that these pieces are unlikely to sell. Most people will not wear this damaged jewelry, nor will they elect to have it repaired, and thus it ends up unused. Selling this damaged jewelry is a much better alternative than keeping it.
Are Your Gold and Platinum Items Being Used?
If you have gold and platinum items that are not being used or enjoyed, you may still find yourself unsure of whether or not to sell them because of their intrinsic value. These are valuable items, you may think, and it would be a shame to let them go.
However, if you are not using these items or enjoying them, then consider this ? are they worth hanging on to? Gold and platinum items are expensive to store and insure, and are actually costing you money, money that is going to waste if the items are unused or not enjoyed. When you think of the money you could be saving by not storing and insuring these items, and the money that you could realize from selling them for cash, doesn?t selling them make more sense? Especially when you consider what you could do with the money?
Your gold and platinum items may be valuable, but their value is directly related to their use. If you are not using or enjoying these items, they have very little value to you, whereas the money that you could get for selling these items could allow you to invest or purchase items that you will use and enjoy. Especially since price of gold is high
Do You Need Cash More Than You Need the Gold and Platinum Items?
The economic downturn in America that has resulted in higher prices for necessities like food and fuel and skyrocketing mortgage payments has left many people strapped for cash. Many have turned to credit cards or other debt to offset these higher prices, a poor solution in the long run.
If you have gold and platinum items to sell, and need cash, selling gold for cash is a much better financial move than going into debt by relying on credit cards and other debt services, which only perpetuate the problem over time.
If you?ve been considering selling your gold and platinum items, but haven?t made your mind up, consider these factors. You may find that selling your gold and platinum items just makes sense.
